So really... what
is Southern Islands? Here are the facts:
Set Size:
18 in the US and in Japan
The cards weren't sold in packs, but instead in a presorted
package of three cards (in Japan) or in a really cool binder
(in the US). For Japan, there were 6 of these packages in
all, with 3 of them in each (thus 18 cards).
Set
Order: It's not really a set, so it doesn't
count.
Release
Date: Summer 1999 in Japan; Fall 2001
in the US
SI was a 18 card promo set for the second Pokémon
movie release in Japan (known as Revelation Lugia
there).
Other
Goodies:
One of the cards in each of the Japanese
packages was a reverse holo, but the holo itself was more
like the Wizards Shiney Pokémon found in Neo Destiny
than regular holos. .... So this means that there were 6
holos in this.
The English release of SI changed the holos into just
regular holo cards.
This set was also released before Pokémon
Gold/Silver was in Japan, so it gave everyone a look at some
of the "new" Pokémon (which were Marill, Ladyba, and
Togepi).

Gathering's Mirage set symbol).
